RBSD provided planning, programming, all architectural and interior design, in addition to the coordination of all other engineering and specialty disciplines for the $24 million Phase II modernization project. The new 125,000-square-foot, five-story addition forms a canopy around the existing 1970s brick building, creating a new exterior for the hospital with a reflective glass curtainwall. The new image has been carried through on subsequent projects, such as RBSD's East Addition, to create a signature design image that helps to project the medical center's evolving role in the inner-city community.
